Innovation

We talked with SRR innovators, and our partners and advisors, to learn what is needed to develop more sharing, reuse, and repair innovations.  We will do the following in response to what we heard:

  • Support the development of a more visible and coordinated innovation ecosystem;
  • Connect innovators with existing capacity building expertise and develop new offerings;
  • Illuminate the ‘right’ innovations and help to catalyze their development;
  • Assist innovators in shifting consumer behaviour towards sharing, reuse, and repair;
  • Help ensure that policy and regulation consistently support desired SRR innovation.

Stay tuned for events, workshops, knowledge products, and networking opportunities.

Circular Evaluation Matrix

In Spring 2019, SRRI advised a capstone with students from the University of Waterloo's Master of Environment and Business program. The students developed a matrix to help businesses determine the circularity, the sustainability, and the feasibility of their enterprise. The matrix should also help highlight the 'right' innovations.
SRRI is currently working on honing this matrix to be released to the public. Stay tuned for its release and upcoming webinars reviewing the matrix.

Sharing Innovators

In November 2019, we convened innovators in the sharing space to determine their successes, their challenges, and opportunities they have employed. We identified that their primary challenges included:
  • changing consumer behaviours and affording the resources required to do so;
  • renting a retail, industrial, or storage space; and
  • supportive policy.
Following the Sharing Innovators meeting, we held the SHIFT Framework Workshop focused on changing people's behaviours to match their attitudes. Read more about that here.
