Repair has become expensive and inaccessible.Due to intellectual property laws and financial barriers, repair has become inaccessible to individuals and independent repair businesses. It is often cheaper to replace an item than to repair it, because of these barriers and economies of scale.

Our products are no longer designed to last.Industry priorities have shifted, resulting in products that no longer last. Right to Repair not only overcomes legislative and financial barriers to repair, but reorders industrial design priorities, resulting in more durable and longer lived products.

We convened a Repair Working Group, made up of a dozen experts in Metro Vancouver, to scale repair opportunities and foster supportive change in policy and production.

In 2018, we designed and facilitated the development of a new collaborative repair café model, bringing free, community-led repair activities to neighbourhoods in Metro Vancouver. Bringing together municipalities, social enterprises, nonprofits, and grassroots entities, this helped to catalyze the growth of repair cafés across the Metro Vancouver region.
